The Vatreni

Overview

A white football jersey built around Croatia's iconic red and white checkerboard, worn in two different ways across the same garment. The right sleeve carries a clean geometric check pattern while the left runs solid red with "Kockasti" printed vertically — the other name Croatians use for their team. A faded checkerboard bleeds across the body from the right, with a blue vertical stripe anchoring the left side, referencing the three colors of the Croatian flag.

Why It's Special

The red and white checkerboard has appeared on Croatian coats of arms since the medieval period, long before it became one of the most recognizable kits in world football. Kockasti — the checkered ones — is what Croatians call their team at home. The Vatreni is what the rest of the world came to know them as after their run to the 1998 World Cup third place finish, a tournament that put Croatian football on the map. Both names are on this jersey, in their own way.
